Union Saint-Gilloise vs Liverpool (2-1) Report: Liverpool Youngsters Given Chance In Defeat

The hosts took the lead shortly after the half hour mark, with Mohamed Amoura putting Union Saint-Gilloise in front as he pounced on a Curtis Jones mistake.

Liverpool’s young midfielder lost possession on the halfway line and from there the hosts pounced with incredible speed, as Amoura found his way in behind the Reds defence before calmly rounding Caoimhin Kelleher in net to smash in the first goal.

It didn’t take too long for the group winners to get back on terms with Union Saint-Gilloise though, as Jarell Quansah made no mistake blasting the visitors level from a corner.

A dangerous Jones corner fortunately fell to the Liverpool 20-year-old around the penalty spot and following a neat touch, Quansah rifled home his first senior goal for the Reds.

Union Saint-Gilloise would restore their advantage again just five minutes later, as a quick break led to Cameron Puertas firing a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The hosts thought they had doubled their advantage midway through the second half, but after a VAR check the referee decided to disallow the finish for a handball in the build up.

Neither side were able to find the back of the net after the disallowed finish, with Klopp giving chances to more youngsters from the bench as time ran out.

James McConnell and Calum Scanlon were both given minutes late in the second half, as Liverpool lost game that had no significance to their qualification.
