Unai Emery Admits He Dreams Of Taking Aston Villa To The Champions League

Unai Emery has admitted his desire to take Aston Villa to the Champions League. It might be a few years away until we see them in the competition, but what are the Aston Villa top four odds?

The Spaniard joined in October 2022, which means this summer has been his first summer window and pre-season with Aston Villa.

Emery’s first season with Aston Villa saw him turn the side from a relegation threatened team to a team chasing Europe.

Aston Villa ultimately finished 7th in the league. This will see them playing the Europa Conference League next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the new season, Emery has admitted he wishes to take Aston Villa to the Champions League:

“The present and the future for me with Aston Villa is try to play Champions League with Aston Villa, that is my dream.”

Emery knew his side needed to improve once again this transfer window and that’s what they’ve done.

So far this window they’ve signed winger Moussa Diaby and defender Pau Torres.  The pair cost Aston Villa just over £75million.

Their best bit of business was done in the free transfer market. Youri Tielemans signed a contract with Emery’s side after leaving relegated Leicester City.

If they do want to qualify for the Champions League they’ll need to sign a couple more players to improve the depth in their squad.

Playing Europa Conference League football will also be a challenge for them. They’ll need good team rotation to handle the Thursday night games.

They’re a dark house in the top four race this season.
