Kieran Trippier uploaded a picture of his son donning Kylian Mbappe’s match-worn shirt following Newcastle’s 4-1 demolition of PSG.

What happened in the Newcastle vs. PSG game?

In what was Newcastle’s first Champions League home game for 20 years, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Newcastle players would be nervous to face the star-studded Paris Saint-Germain line-up – but you’d be wrong.

Within 17 minutes of kick-off, Newcastle went 1-0 up after Alexander Isak’s low effort was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, only for it to fall at the feet of Miguel Almiron to calmly slot the ball home.

Newcastle would go on to double, then triple, their lead through local heroes, Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff, before PSG pulled one back through full-back Lucas Hernandez to set up a nerve-wracking 34 minutes for Newcastle fans.

But, they needn’t have worried as Fabian Schar’s 91st-minute long-range effort capped off a memorable night for the Toon and put to bed any glimmer of hope for PSG, as the Magpies ran out 4-1 winners.

Trippier’s Son’s Mbappe Obsession

Trippier revealed before the game that his son had admitted he would prefer to walk out with his idol Mbappe, rather than him.

Speaking about his son’s admission, the 33-year-old said: “I was having a bit of banter with my son on Monday, and he said he wanted to walk out with Mbappe instead of me.

“I really wasn’t happy with that!

“He’s obsessed with him, always watching his clips on YouTube. I said to him, ‘If you get to walk out with Mbappe, you don’t look at me in the tunnel!’

“Everyone is going to want his shirt, that is normal, but it’s not crossed my mind – I want the three points!”

Securing Mbappe’s Shirt

Despite the Frenchman having a day to forget, he was gracious enough to hand his shirt over to Tripper, though the English full-back did face stiff competition from teammate, Sean Longstaff.

However, Trippier and his son would both end the day happy, as the former Spurs right-back grabbed the three points, while his son was able to secure the shirt.
