Gordon Elliott’s Best Cheltenham Festival 2024 Chance: BRIGHTERDAYSAHEAD (Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle, Thursday)
At the recent Grand National weights lunch, Sky Sports presenter Matt Chapman grabbed Gordon Elliott to ask him for one horse at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival to look out for.
Gordon Elliott, who has trained 37 Cheltenham Festival winners, didn’t have to think for long – quickly replying to Chapman.
“Brighterdaysahead – in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. I think she’s very, very good. I don’t say it too often, but I think the world of her. She’s very good.”

Brighterdaysahead Is Yet To Lose A Race
Brighterdaysahead will come into the race unbeaten from five runs and put in her best performance yet when winning a Listed Mares Novice Hurdle at Navan in February by 12-lengths (watch below).
That was also her first try upped in trip (2m5f) so there could be more improvement to come from this Gigginstown House Stud-owned horse.
Willie Mullins, who trains Jade De Grugy, has won the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle five times and this mare looks the biggest threat to the Elliott runner.
Brighterdaysahead could also face the unbeaten Dysart Enos from the Fergal O’Brien yard, who was a nice winner at the Cheltenham December Meeting and has since added another success at Doncaster.
Gordon Elliott is still looking for his first win in this Festival race, that has only been going since 2016, but that could all change in 2024 if his comments to Matt Chapman are proved right.
