Tottenham have been working on the structure of their deal for Radu Dragusin but have a back-up list to turn to if the deal was to collapse.
Radu Dragusin To Tottenham
Ahead of fresh talks on Friday, Spurs were confident they would still find a breakthrough with Genoa over a fee for the Romanian centre-back.
The North Londoners see him as a perfect addition to their back line as he has strong aerial ability, good pace, and a reading of the game that has helped him shine in Serie A this season.
But Ange Postecoglou’s side will not cave in easily over Genoa’s financial terms on a deal and have been trying to negotiate so that the fee and payment set-up suits them for other business across the January transfer window.
There has been some frustration in recent days as Tottenham wanted to progress fast.
It would be a disappointment if they could not get an agreement by the weekend, as this deal was already seen as a fall-back plan after turning away from Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Radu Dragusin has won more aerial duels than any other defender in Serie A so far this season (53).

Tottenham January Transfer Targets
But if they were forced to look elsewhere, Tottenham already have scouting reports and transfer details on Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, Everton’s Ben Godfrey and Benfica’s Morato.
Sources are also hinting to SportsLens that there is one other target from abroad that could yet emerge. It is understood Spurs have set an internal deadline for the end of next week to bring in a new centre-back, so that they can then turn to other situations if need be.
The North Londoners would like a new versatile attacker and may also decide to sign a midfielder at the end of the window. One situation to look out for surrounds Samuel Illing-Junior of Juventus.
The Italians want a bid to land soon, if they are genuinely interested, so that they can plot their own squad replacements.
