Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, has reportedly played a huge role in the potential signing of former Chelsea player, Timo Werner.

Timo Werner To Spurs Latest

Timo Werner’s surprise move to Tottenham has been driven by boss Ange Postecoglou. Werner, 27, had been offered to the likes of Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace leading into the January window.

The possibility of a move to Tottenham was explored from Thursday and now the player is on the verge of a loan move, with the possibility of a £15million transfer in the summer if it goes well.

Over the years Spurs have earned a bit of a reputation under Daniel Levy for leaving business until late in a transfer window – and fans have become used to seeing potential deals played out through the media but not materialise.

Yet if this Werner deal from RB Leipzig makes it over the line, it shows a fresh sense of purpose to their dealings and raises the bar for how they are now conducting business effectively and quickly.

Ange Postecoglou Factor

Spurs are going to be very purposeful under Postecoglou and the manager himself helped identify Werner as a strong target.

The Spurs manager believes the German International has the characteristics to work in his team vision and Spurs’ recruitment staff were convinced his data does fit with the type of player they had been planning to bring in to their forward line.

According to reports, Werner did not fancy a switch to Manchester United, as he is understood to have been put off by the pressure it would have brought and the Red Devils’ philosophy does not seem clear.

He was also skeptical, generally, about playing in the Premier League again because of how his time at Chelsea ended.

But if everything goes well on Sunday, Werner should sign in mind with being in the squad for Tottenham’s next Premier League match against Manchester United.

Werner is said to be a fan of London, but it was the prospect of being part of this Postecoglou side that brought excitement to the German.
