According to UK betting sites, Tottenham Hotspur are in contention to sign Aston Villa star, Ollie Watkins, as Harry Kane looks set to leave.

The 2022-23 season has been a memorable campaign for the Villains leading marksman, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League so far.

Watkins has led Aston Villa during their superb run under Unai Emery, which saw the club win five matches in a row and only failed to score in one match under their Spanish manager.

The Midlands-based side have put themselves in slight contention to qualify for the Europa League, which would be the club’s first stint in Europe since 2011.

The 27-year-old has attracted a lot of interest due to his goal scoring form, with north London rivals, Arsenal and Spurs, being favourites to sign the Villa talisman. Bundesliga giants,  Bayern Munich, have also been linked with a move for the England international.

The Gunners have been top of the Premier League for the majority of the season, however, defeat to Manchester City has given Mikel Arteta’s title chances a huge hit.

Arsenal are also the only team in the league to have four players who have scored 10 or more goals, meaning that the need for a star striker is not a major priority.

On the other hand, a prolific striker may be a necessity for their fierce rivals, as Spurs begin to accept the impending exit of Harry Kane.

Spurs’ record goal scorer has been sublime for his boyhood club, yet again, and rumours of a move to Manchester United have started to progress.

Should Kane leave the Lane this season, then the club will be on the hunt for a new leading man and Watkins’ electric form this season makes him an extremely suitable option.

A transfer fee is yet to be confirmed by the Villains, with many expecting the striker to cost around £50m. Given the club’s recent spend on Richarlison, agreeing a fee may not be a problem.
