Newly-crowned Serie A champions Napoli had an opening bid rejected for Max Kilman this week, which has opened the door for interest closer to home with Tottenham now throwing their hat in the ring.

Kim Min-Jae‘s confirmed move to Bayern Munich has forced Napoli into the transfer market, as the Italians eye defensive reinforcements for next season.

Gil Azzurri lodged an unexpected £30m bid for Wolves centre-back Max Kilman last week, which was swiftly rejected. The 26-year-old’s profile as a tall, imposing defender, who is just as comfortable with the ball as he is without it, is an appealing prospect for Napoli who will be rueing the loss of Kim Min-Jae after just one season.

As recent Serie A winners who enjoyed a deep run in the Champions League, they are banking on Kilman opting for loftier ambitions should they manage to muster the funds for a successful bid.

In the meantime, Tottenham have reportedly registered their concrete interest as Ange Postecoglu eyes a defensive shake-up.

14 clubs conceded less goals than Spurs in the Premier League last year, which was the driving force behind their downfall in the second half of the season.

Corriere dello Sport report that they are ready to rival Napoli for Kilman’s signature, which is exactly what Wolves are hoping for.

The club will are required pass on a percentage of the fee to his former club Maindenhead, so they are eager to hold out for fee nearer to their £40m valuation.

In typical Daniel Levy fashion however, the club will not go above and beyond for the Wolves defender, particularly with advanced negotiations still taking place over Wolfsburg talent Micky van de Ven.
