Former Arsenal and England forward Paul Merson has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will ‘100% be a bottom half team’ if star striker Harry Kane departs for Bayern Munich this summer.
According to reports from Germany, Tottenham and Bayern Munich have agreed a €100million fee for Harry Kane, and it is now down to the player whether the move goes ahead or not.
It is believed that the 30-year-old had been leaning towards remaining in north London, but he must now make his final decision.
Of course, Spurs are without European football this term – so that will undoubtedly be a major factor in whatever he decides, however if he chooses to stay put – Tottenham are keen to tie him down to a new contract.
The prospect of his exit for the Bundesliga has sparked debate amongst fans and pundits alike, and former England and Arsenal forward Paul Merson has been one of the most outspoken on the topic, claiming that Tottenham would ‘100% be a bottom half team’ if their talisman departs.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said that Manchester United should’ve gone all out to sign the England captain.
“I’m still shocked here today and I don’t know why Manchester United didn’t buy Kane. If they had, they would have got a good four or five years out of him and they would have won the Premier League.
“Kane scored 30 goals last season and Spurs finished nowhere near. You feel sorry for Ange Postecoglou, but you’re talking about a team who might, might, get in the top four if he stays, then a team who doesn’t get in the top half if he leaves.
He continued by claiming Tottenham will be in the bottom half if Kane leaves, and questioned where they’ll get their goals from going forward.
“They’re 100 per cent a bottom half team if he leaves. Who is going to get the goals? They finished eighth last season. I like James Maddison, he’s a good player. But Leicester got relegated.”
🗣️ “They won’t even get in the top half!”
Paul Merson predicts Tottenham to have a SHOCKING season if Harry Kane leaves. 👀
