Paul Heckingbottom’s Sheffield United came from behind against Blackburn Rovers twice at Bramall Lane to secure their spot in the last four of the FA Cup this afternoon.

The pair had already faced eachother this month prior to the FA Cup tie, where Rovers ran out as 1-0 winners just over two weeks ago.

It was an entirely different match this afternoon however, as the teams scored a combined five goals in the FA Cup quarter-final thriller.

Blackburn dealt the first blow in Sheffield. After 21 minutes, the visitors were handed a golden opportunity to open the scoring from the spot after a Jack Robinson handball – which Ben Brereton-Diaz made no mistake in convering.

Their lead was a short-lived one, though. The hosts struck back just seven minutes later as Max Lowe’s effort from the edge of the box was deflected beyond Aynsley Pears.

Rovers’ last-16 hero against Leicester Sammie Szmodics got in on the act early in the second-half. The Irishman was on hand to slot past Wes Foderingham to restore the visitors’ lead.

Despite leading twice in the tie, it was the Sheffield United late show that stole all the headlines.

Oli McBurnie and Tommy Doyle both struck in the last 10 minutes to hand the Blades the lead, and send them to the last four of England’s prestigious cup competition.
