Three-Time Betfair Chase Winner Bristol De Mai Has Been Retired Aged 12

Legendary racehorse Bristol De Mai has been retired by his owners, aged 12. Part-owner Simon Munir announced the news to fans on Twitter.

Bristol De Mai was a five-time Grade 1 winner in the UK, enjoying six successes at happy hunting ground Haydock Park throughout a stellar career that included three Betfair Chase victories. There’s no secret as to why he holds the name of ‘The King of Haydock”.

He raced his final race at Haydock on Saturday finishing 11th of 14 runners (three pulled up), and ends his career with earnings of over £900,000 for connections.

Jockey Daryl Jacob, who was on board for nine of the 12-year-old’s 12 wins paid tribute to the horse.

“What a legend of a horse Bristol has been and he’s been a pleasure to ride.

“I’ve enjoyed so many good days on him and some special days with my family too – the kids have grown to love him over the years so he’ll always be remembered fondly.

“He absolutely loved Haydock, especially when the mud was flying there. He was a real warrior, so consistent throughout his career and definitely one of the best I’ve ever ridden.”
