The 2023 PGA Championship is upon us as all of the best golfers in the world are set to battle it out for supremacy at Oak Hill. The PGA Championship is the second major championship of the year, and could see some big changes in the Top 10 list of the highest career earners on the PGA Tour.

Who Could Climb Up The PGA Tour Top 10 Career Earnings List By Winning The PGA Championship?

  • A Rory McIlroy win could see him close the gap to $46 million to Tiger Woods
  • A Vijay Singh win could see him overtake Jim Furyk into third highest earner in PGA Tour history
  • A Justin Rose win could see him overtake Adam Scott into fifth highest PGA Tour earner ever
  • A Jordan Spieth win could see him overtake Justin Rose into sixth as PGA Tour highest earner
  • A Jason Day win could see him overtake Matt Kuchar into eighth in the PGA Tour top 10 career earnings list
  • A Justin Thomas win could see him overtake Jason Day into ninth

The winner of the 2023 PGA Championship is expected to earn around $2.7 million, with the full purse coming in at $15 million. Even the 70th placed player come Sunday will earn a $24,500 slice of the pie.

Looking at the list courtesy of pgatour.com of the top 10 highest paid of their golfers of all time, it is clear to see that depending on the outcome of the PGA Championship this weekend, there could be several changes within the top 10.

Nobody is able to break into the top 10 list with a win, but the likes of Jon Rahm could close the gap if he was to triumph come Sunday in New York. However, there certainly could be some movement within the top 10.

Other scenarios could also play out that wouldn’t actually see any actual change in the top 10 career earnings list on the PGA Tour.

Should world number three Rory McIlroy finally break his major drought with a third PGA Championship, he will extend his narrow lead to Jim Furyk in third. There is only a $51,788 difference between the pair, but Furyk will not play this weekend.

Career earnings leader Tiger Woods will also not play after undergoing successful ankle surgery following his withdrawal at The Masters last month. McIlroy still has a way to catch the 15-time major champion, who boasts over $120 million.

Vijay Singh can overtake Jim Furyk into third if he finishes 14th or better, with a current gap of $271,053 between them.

Justin Rose can overtake Adam Scott into fifth with victory, or a second placed finish as he needs at least $1.3 million to bridge the gap.

Jordan Spieth would leapfrog Rose and get within touching distance of Scott if he can win a first major since 2017 at Oak Hill this weekend.

Matt Kuchar can overtake Spieth if he manages to earn more than £830,000, whilst Jason Day is hot on their tails – sitting $1.8 million behind Kuchar and in red-hot form approaching the tournament.

Justin Thomas in tenth place with a $2.3 million gap to Day, whilst Jon Rahm is knocking on the door already – $3.9 million behind the American.

Note: PGA Tour top 10 career earnings list excludes players who have left the PGA Tour and joined LIV Golf. Eg. Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson (source: pgatour.com).

Who From The PGA Tour Top 10 Career Earnings List Is Playing At The Masters?

The PGA Championship is without a doubt one the biggest golf tournaments each and every year. It is one of the four ‘majors’, where all of the best golfers in the world will be hopeful of lifting the Wanamaker trophy on Sunday, with all of the biggest names in the sport competing.

The likes of Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler alongside past champions Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth to name a few.

There could be some changes in the top ten PGA Tour money list too, depending on who reigns supreme after 72 holes at Oak Hill. Of the top 10 golfers in the PGA Tour career money leaders list (excludes players who have defected to LIV Golf), eight of them are competing this week.

The only players who will not compete at the PGA Championship who feature in the PGA Tour career earnings top 10 list are Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk.

This means the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and even Vijay Singh are all competing this week at the PGA Championship. McIlroy, Spieth and Justin Thomas are amongst the betting favorites this week to win with the best offshore sportsbooks.

Other names such as Justin Rose and Adam Scott are outsiders at relatively lucrative prices. Matt Kuchar can be backed at huge odds of +20000 to win the PGA Championship with the best US sportsbooks.
