The Triumph Hurdle market received a big shake-up on Cheltenham Festival Trials Day after the Nicky Henderson-trained SIR GINO slammed the old favourite for the race, Burdett Road, by 10 lengths.
Sir Gino Slashed Into 5/4 Triumph Hurdle Favourite After Putting Burdett Road In His Place
Trainer Willie Mullins has had stranglehold on the Triumph Hurdle – the first race on the final day at the Cheltenham Festival – for the last four years (3 wins), but he will do well to add to that fine recent record in 2024.
Why? Well, the Nicky Henderson-trained SIR GINO looks a proper horse in the making and backed up this claim with a facile 10-length romp in the Triumph Hurdle Trial race at Cheltenham on Saturday 27th January.
Before the race, the best UK horse racing betting sites had Sir Gino and the old Triumph ante-post favourite Burdett Road clear at the head of the market, but in the hours building up to the race the money came for the Henderson horse and the pair went off almost the same price – Sir Gino 5/4 and Burdett Road 6/5.
However, despite travelling well into the race, Burdett Road was very keen during most of it, and this took its toll when trying to muster a challenge to Sir Gino, who took up the running over the final flight.
Sir Gino powered up the Cheltenham hill to win by 10 lengths (watch below) and in the process the best online betting sites slashed his Triumph Hurdle odds from 9/2 to 5/4.
On that performance Sir Gino is now sure to be added to many people’s Cheltenham Festival banker list.
The new Triumph Hurdle favourite Sir Gino is now 3-from-3, having won on debut in France and in addition to his recent Cheltenham win, burst onto the UK scene with a 14-length win at Kempton over Christmas.
As a result, Burdett Road is now out to 12/1, if you fancy the James Owen-trained horse to bounce back.
