talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan believes that it’s the “end of the road” for Gareth Southgate if England don’t win the upcoming European Championship, as the Three Lions get their qualifying campaign underway against Italy.

This evening, England take on Italy to kick off the European Championship qualifying campaign.

Joined in the group by Malta, North Macedonia and Ukraine, England are expected to qualify for a fourth successive European Championship.

It would be Gareth Southgate’s fourth tournament in charge of the Three Lions, having lost out in the final in the last Euro’s.

England’s fortunes haven’t improved since the final however, with a Nations League relegation to League B and a quarter-final exit at the Qatar World Cup.

This has led many England fans to the belief that Southgate should be replaced at the helm.

Of course, this hasn’t happened, but talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has claimed that it has to be the “end of the road” for Southgate if he doesn’t win the upcoming European Championship.

Simon Jordan On Gareth Southgate

Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, Jordan offered his opinion on England and Southgate.

“I don’t believe we have a winner in our dugout,” he said.

“For me, that takes out the component that no one can ever programme into anything in life which is that x-factor, that thing that makes somebody different from another person,

“That thing that makes [Roberto] Mancini be able to outthink [Gareth] Southgate on the touchline to win a European Championship final.”

He went on to say that anything other than a first place finish simply isn’t good enough.

“We can’t be busy in fourth. The object of the aim is to be winners. There’s only a few of them around, and when you see them, you’be got to hang on to them,

“You [Southgate] need to win this tournament coming up, anything other than a win has to be the end of the conversation.”
