Sheffield United have confirmed the signing of Aston Villa forward Cameron Archer on a four-year contract in a deal worth a reported £18.5m.

Blades Confirm Cameron Archer Signing

The Blades announced the signing of Archer on Sunday morning, with Villa negotiating a buy-back clause in the deal to have control over the striker’s future.

Archer scored 11 goals in 20 Championship games for Middlesborough last season in a second successful loan spell in the second tier. He also had a short stint at Preston North End the season before.

Villa coach Unai Emery gave Archer a chance to prove himself in pre-season and he featured in all three of the club’s Premier League Sumer Series friendlies in America.

The 21-year-old helped England lift the European U21 Championship in July and impressed.

Archer was an unused sub in the 4-0 win over Everton last weekend, but was not included in the squad that travelled to Scotland to take on Hibernian for the Conference League play-off on Wednesday. The Villains were 5-0 winners at Easter Road as Ollie Watkins netted a hat-trick.

Cameron Archer was speaking of his move to Bramall Lane: “Everyone is happy if they are playing football regularly. That’s something I want to do now.

“I think it was important to come here and look for Premier League football, that was key for me because I want to make that next step now and challenge myself. Hopefully I can do that here.

“Sheffield United have a long history of developing players in terms of playing and hopefully making better people as well.”
