The Sagaro Stakes is the standout race this Wednesday as a field of six stayers, that include the Champions Long Distance Cup winner Trueshan, eye-up the ÂŁ45k first prize at Ascot.
Trueshan The Star On Show at Ascot Today
The Alan King star stayer Trueshan, who is around 8/1 with the best UK betting sites for the Ascot Gold Cup at the Royal Meeting in June, is the big name running at the Berkshire track this afternoon.
Last season’s Champions Long Distance Cup winner will face just five other rivals in today’s Sagaro Stakes (3:15pm), but one of those is the Hugo Palmer-trained Rajinsky, who beat him last month at Nottingham.
That defeat came over 1m6f though and back up to 2m today will be more up Trueshan’s street, while with that last effort also coming off a 6-month break should strip a lot fitter this time.
Regular pilot Hollie Doyle makes the trip to Ascot to ride Trueshan – a horse she’s won on 8 times before. In fact, Doyle is yet to finish out of the first three on the Alan King horse in all her past 12 rides on the 7 year-old.
He’s been put in @ 10/11 today by StarSports to get back to winning ways today, while Rajinsky is @ 9/1 to cause the upset again.
Coltrane Has Lowered Trueshan’s Colours Before
Trueshan is also taking on another horse that has a history of beating him – Coltrane. This Andrew Balding runner lowered the colours of Trueshan last season in the Doncaster Cup and is @ 11/4 with StarSports to repeat the feat this afternoon.
This course winner is back from a 200-day break, having last been seen running a head second to Trueshan in the Long Distance Cup here at Ascot last October.
On that running there shouldn’t be a lot between the pair again today.
Money For El Habeeb In The Betting
Of the six runners, the horse that’s attracted some interest this morning in the betting is El Habeeb. The Kevin Philippart De Foy runner is now into @ 6/1 with StarSports (from 13/2). He was a course winner in a Listed race at the track last September and returned at the end of March to run a fair 5th (of 15) in the Dubai Gold Cup in Meydan.
Andrea Atzeni, who rode him the last twice, remains in the saddle.
