Ruud Gullit Suggests Chelsea Deliberately Ruined Hakim Ziyech’s Loan Move To PSG

Former Chelsea midfielder and manager Ruud Gullit has suggested that the club deliberately botched Hakim Ziyech’s loan-move to PSG on deadline-day.

Ziyech had been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge throughout the January transfer window, after struggling for consistent game-time under Graham Potter.

PSG reached an agreement with the Premier League giants to bring Ziyech to the French capital on loan. Newcastle United and Everton were both said to have been interested in the winger, too.

The move to France, however, collapsed at the final hurdle. It has been claimed that the Blues sent incorrect documents to the Parisiens three times, leaving the transfer incomplete, and the Moroccan in limbo.

Ziyech was in Paris to complete the move, but was forced to return to London after PSG’s appeal to complete the transfer was rejected by the French league.

He even sent messages to Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, pleading to get the deal finalised.

Ruud Gullit’s Comments

Former Chelsea man Ruud Gullit spoke to Dutch media about the club’s treatment of the player.

“This is not a mistake. It can’t be. If you get so many players and you do this two, three times… It can be bullying,” he said.

“Ziyech could also have been annoying. You don’t know. He will have to fight for his place again. In the end, it’s terrible for him.

“He should have left there a long time ago. The question is whether he would have played at Paris Saint-Germain. Then you end up in the same situation.”

The 29-year-old missed out on the opportunity to share the field of play with the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Since returning, Ziyech was named in Chelsea’s Champions League squad, and started against local rivals Fulham.

Graham Potter’s Comments

Blues boss Graham Potter insisted that the Moroccan still has ‘an important role to play’.

“He’s back in the country, he trained this morning. It won’t be the first story like this or the last.” he said.

“He’s a professional player, he understands the situation. He’s committed to us and available for the game against Fulham.

“He has an important role to play for us for the rest of the season.”
