Ruby Walsh Tips On Saturday 9th December 2023
See below the Saturday Ruby Walsh tips from Sandown and Aintree on Saturday as the top Paddy Power pundit has EIGHT best bets to add to your betting slips.
At Sandown Park all eyes will be on the talented Jonbon in the Tingle Creek Chase as the JP McManus-owned horse looks to make it 7-from-8 over fences and continue his journey towards the Champion Chase at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.
Plus, at the Esher track we also have the rescheduled Fighting Fifth Hurdle and the return of Champion Hurdler Constitution Hill.
Then up at Aintree it’s the Becher Chase that takes centre stage – a race that us run over the famous Grand National fences. Last year’s winner Ashtown Lad will be one of those fancied to back up last year’s success.

Ruby Walsh Tips from Aintree and Sandown
Aintree Tips
- 12:55 – Boylesports Houghton Mares’ Chase: ZAMBELLA
Has won this race for the last two seasons and with the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard in good form too, Ruby Walsh is expecting another big run.
- 1:30 – Boylesports Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase: WAR LORD
Third last time out in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter. Can build on that after 214-days off and Harry Cobden booked to take over.
- 2:05 – Boylesports Becher Handicap Chase: NOW WHERE OR WHENÂ
Needed the run last time at Navan and will love the ground. Expected to take to the National fences well and run a big race.
- 2:40 – Boylesports Daily Money Back 2nd Juvenile Hurdle: LIARI
The Paul Nicholls yard have won this race three times since 2016 and Ruby Walsh thinks this horse is one of the main reason’s jockey Harry Cobden is heading to Aintree this Saturday.
Sandown Tips
- 1:15 – Betfair Fighting Fifth Hurdle: CONSTITUTION HILL (win by under 8 lengths)
Of course, Constitution Hill will win this race – barring accidents. But there is little point backing this Henderson star hurdler at the short odds. So, Ruby thinks opting for a win by under 8 lengths is the ay to go.
- 1:50 – Betfair Henry VIII Novices’ Chase: UNEXPECTED PARTY
Didn’t last out in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham the last day but still ran a top race to be fifth. The drop in trip will suit, but his proven stamina in the ground will also help in testing conditions.
- 3:00 – Betfair Tingle Creek Chase: JONBON (win by 10+ lengths)
Jonbon was a decent hurdler but he’s turning into an even better chaser. Has won 6 of his 7 starts over fences and was super impressive in winning the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham last time out. Can win the day’s feature race at Sandown and do it impressively by 10 lengths.
- 3:35 – Betfair Exchange London National Handicap Chase: BEAUPORT
Staying will be the order of the day in the final race and Ruby expects this Twiston-Davies runner to last out. The yard are in good order too and the horse is also a course winner.
