Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has compared Manchester City star Jack Grealish to Team GB diver Tom Daley, after the £100m man won a penalty against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Citizens were already 2-0 up when Jack Grealish went down to earn his side a penalty, which was expertly converted by Riyad Mahrez to make it 3-0.

Grealish was not without his critics after winning the penalty however, with many on social media claiming the forward had dived under pressure from Jacob Ramsey.

Roy Keane, who was a pundit for the match, reacted to the incident on Sky Sports.

“You have to give the penalty, Jack was being very, very smart. Very naïve the defending from Ramsey but he does kind of catch him.

“Jack kicks himself more than anything else. He’s more like Tom Daley but I think it is a penalty and it’s clever from Jack. He gets his body across, he knows exactly what he is doing – gives the referee almost no option but to give the penalty.”

At full-time, the analysis of the incident continued, with former Manchester City defender Micah Richards saying: “He gets clipped, doesn’t he, but let’s be honest, I’m going to text him later on. He has made a meal out of that.”

Keane did not have any sympathy for the visitors, however, claiming that Grealish was clever in his play.

“He was doing this for years at Aston Villa. He used to frustrate lots of teams.” he continued.

“But when you get across people in the box you are almost asking to be punished. Ramsey is trying to get himself out of it, but Jack’s clever enough to get close enough.

“There’s almost a tangle of legs, the ref doesn’t have a choice, It’s smart by Jack.”

Villa pulled one back in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to inspire a fightback, as City ran out as 3-1 winners.

Erling Haaland was brought off at half-time after picking up an injury. Depending on the severity of the injury, it could come as a major blow for Pep Guardiola, as they prepare for their top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

Premier League betting sites have City priced at around 27/20 to beat Arsenal, while the Gunners are priced at around 19/10 for victory.
