With Chelsea desperate to win their first piece of silverware under Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool headed into the game as strong favourites among Betting sites.
The game started tentatively as both teams saw early long-range efforts saved by goalkeepers Djordjie Petrovic and Caoimhin Kelleher respectively.
The game then sprung into life after Cole Palmer’s close-range effort was somehow denied by Kelleher, before Raheem Sterling had a goal disallowed for a borderline offside in the build-up.
Both teams continued to pepper each other’s goalkeepers until the 60th minute, when Virgil van Dijk headed in from a Liverpool free-kick.
The goal sent the Liverpool faithful into a rapturous celebration, however upon closer inspection the goal was ruled out by VAR for an offside.
With neither team able to score in the allotted 90 minutes, the game went in to extra time and looked to be petering out to penalties.
However, in the 118th minute Liverpool won a corner, from which Virgil van Dijk headed in a Kostas Tsimikas cross to win the game in dramatic fashion for Liverpool.

Rory Jennings On Chelsea Carabao Cup Defeat To Liverpool
YouTuber and Chelsea fan Rory Jennings fumed following his side’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
Speaking on The Club podcast with co-host Adam McKola and Buvey, Jennings said: “Losing a cup final is never nice, but losing a cup final in this circumstance really does cut deep.
“Because Chelsea should have won the game today. Liverpool were magnificent. Liverpool turned up, Liverpool demanded the very best from everybody associated with their team and they got the result that they so desperately needed.
“I think this result, on Merseyside, is going to be spoken about for years to come. In fact, a lot of these players will go into Liverpool folklore. The day that a load of kids turned up representing Liverpool and blew Chelsea’s billionaire squad out of the water.”

Discussing Mauricio Pochettino’s as Chelsea manager, Jennings said: “Jurgen Klopp, again, battering Mauricio Pochettino. Mauricio Pochettino yet again failing. How long will it take Mauricio Pochettino to win silverware in this country? 388 games managed in this league and yet he has literally nothing to show for it.
“Chelsea have decided that a manager who’s won nothing in the domestic game in 338 games, Chelsea have decided that he is the man for us. We’ve appointed a manager who is clearly a valiant loser.”
Jennings finished off by comparing Chelsea to Tottenham, saying: “We’ve appointed a manager who is so in keeping with Tottenham traditions that Chelsea have become Tottenham. That is a Tottenham performance that you have seen today. We have appointed a Tottenham manager and we have become Tottenham.”
