Further details of Richarlison and Antonio Conte’s prickly relationship at Tottenham have been divulged, with the former accusing the Italian of “scolding” him in front of the entire squad.

It was a season to forget for both Richarlison and Antonio Conte.

The now-ex-Tottenham manager is a notoriously grating figure, using old school ‘tough love’ in order to galvanise his teams and make them battle-hardened.

Although this has proved successful down the years, the typically fiery Italian has nearly always left his roles having fallen out with one or more members of the squad, or the club hierarchy having failed to back him in the transfer market as was the case at Chelsea.

His most recent transgressions saw him unload all of his bitterness to the press. In a remarkable post-match conference back in March, he criticised the current group of Spurs players as unambitious while also taking a swipe at the club in general for failing to be ruthless enough to win silverware.

As you would expect, he didn’t last much longer and was relieved of his duties soon after.

One of the players who appeared to suffer the most under Conte’s overbearing rule was Richarlison. The Brazilian’s £50m switch from Everton last season has proven to be nothing short of a disaster, scoring just three times in 35 appearances and just once in the Premier League.

Conte publicly lambasted the 26-year-old mid-way though the season after there were suggestions Richarlison had criticised Conte. He said: “First of all I watched the interview of Richarlison. He didn’t criticise me. He said his season was s*** and he’s right.

“His season has been not good. He had injuries, played and scored in the Champions League and then went to the World Cup and then had a serious injury.

Speaking to the Que Papinho podcast, Richalison recently spoke of when he requested further game time to prove his worth.

“I made a mistake in granting an interview in which I asked to play more. Later, I apologised and said he could punish me,” he said.

“He replied that he was the boss and he went on to prove it to me. He spent almost two hours scolding me in front of everyone in a team meeting.”
