According to AS, Liverpool had a late deadline day bid for Bruno Guimaraes worth £100m rejected by Newcastle.

Liverpool did sign attacking midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich for £34m on deadline day but their hopes of also signing Brazilian Guimaraes for a whopping £100m quickly remained in tatters following a swift bid rejection. This would’ve been a club-record signing for the Reds.

Liverpool also nearly signed Moises Caicedo for £115m as a deal was agreed with Brighton but Caicedo opted for Chelsea instead.

The report, which also states that Liverpool wanted Brazilian Andre Trindade from Fluminense, that Liverpool still have Guimaraes as a target as they believe he could become available as early as January.

Guimaraes caused some alarm bells to ring when he admitted in July there are “doubts” over signing a new deal at St. James’ Park.

Since then he hit the headlines when he targeted moaning Newcastle fans with “short, stupid memories”, following a bad run of form to the start of the season.

Eddie Howe won’t want Guimaraes to leave as he believes he’s one of their most important players: “He’s a hugely important player for us, he’s got that mixture in his game. He’s an unbelievable technician, he takes the ball anywhere. But he’s also got a real grit and determination off the ball as well. He’s been a game-changer for us”.
