Real Madrid are reportedly targeting Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, following his impressive season with the Gunners.
The Spaniard took the reigns at the side he once played for back in 2019 and faced a lot of criticism despite winning the FA Cup. However, this season has been a completely different story for the north London side, with the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League.
Arteta has managed to put Arsenal in a title race for the first time in over a decade, creating a five point gap between themselves and current champions, Manchester City. The 40-year-old has also coached his side superbly in Europe, as they won their Europa League group.
🗣️ “If you said to Arsenal fans and Mikel Arteta that you’re going to be five points clear with 12 games to go, you’re not going to get that kind of opportunity [again], so I think they need to grab it.” @skysports_sheth says Arsenal need to take this unique opportunity.🏆 pic.twitter.com/27SPV1362P

These achievements, as well as his style of play has drawn the attention of 14-time Champions League winners Real Madrid. Florentino Perez has reportedly identified Arteta as a possible replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian looking likely to leave at the end of the season.
Los Blancos are second in La Liga, nine points behind their historic rivals Barcelona which has frustrated their supporters. However, their poor league form hasn’t impacted their Champions League campaign, beating Liverpool 5-2 in their opening round of 16 tie.
Should the Arsenal manager take the reigns at Madrid and win silverware, he would be the first Spanish manager to do so since Vincente del Bosque back in 2003. However, Arsenal fans will be hoping that their boss sticks with his current project for the next few years.
