Rasmus Hojlund was unveiled at Old Trafford prior to Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Lens as the club confirmed the signing of the highly-rated 20-year-old from Atlanta for a combined €85m fee.

Hojlund was Erik ten Hag’s preferred option to lead the line for United once it became clear that a deal to sign Harry Kane from Spurs was unrealistic but fans will have to wait to see the Dane in action due to an injury sustained in pre-season training with Atalanta.

According to the club, it could take a few weeks for him to reach match fitness so his Premier League debut is likely to be at home to Nottingham Forest on the 26th or if he progresses quickly, away at Tottenham Hotspur on the 19th.

The player said: “It is no secret that I have been a fan of this great club since I was a small boy, and I dreamed of walking out at Old Trafford as a Manchester United player.

“I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to turn that dream into a reality, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me. It is still early in my career, but I know that I am ready to make this step up and play with this group of world-class players.

“Once I had spoken to the manager, I knew that this environment would be perfect for my development. I am relishing the opportunity to work with one of the best coaches in the world. Under his guidance and support, I know that I am capable of achieving great things together with my new team-mates at this special club.”

The Red Devils are getting an exciting young prospect who has scored 27 goals in 87 club appearances so far, including nine in Serie A last season alongside four assists for Atalanta.

He fills a desperate void at centre-forward for United and will complete a promising front three alongside Marcus Rashford on the left and presumably Antony on the right.
