Alice Haynes is profitable to follow blindly at the first time of asking with horses she takes over from other trainers (+£6.25) and though her strike-rate is average (five winners from 50 qualifiers, 10%) she’s had seven horses run second, often at big prices (28-1, 20-1, 20-1, 14-1, 15-2, 9-2 and 9-2) and a further 11 finish third or fourth. REGAL RAMBLER, a 16,000gns purchase at the autumn sales, looks a likely improver after leaving Brian Meehan and can make a winning start for his new connections.

LOUP DE MAULDE (system – 3m+ handicap hurdles, last-time out winners, top speed)
Last-time out winners have a great record in handicap hurdles over three miles or further, especially those who clocked a Proform speed figure of 67 or more on their latest outing. Since the beginning of 2012, 118 of the 431 qualifiers won (27.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £111.23 to a £1 level stake at SP. LOUP DE MAULDE scored impressively in a fast time over 3m1f at Huntingdon on his latest start and can follow up.
