HEXHAM 1.15

APPLAUS (system – Micky Hammond/Emma Smith-Chaston combination)

The Micky Hammond yard is in a bit of form now after a quiet spell and Emma Smith-Chaston can get a tune out of APPLAUS in this 2m4f handicap hurdle. Smith -Chaston is 39 from 251 (15.5% strike-rate) when riding for Hammond for a profit of ÂŁ49.35 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP. Applaus contributed with wins at 11-1 and 7-2 (from nine starts) and also placed at 14-1 and 10-1.

HEXHAM 2.15

THE VILLAGE WAY (system – Dan Skelton, first-time tongue-tie, low-grade hurdles)

Dan Skelton has a 51 from 169 record (30.2%) with h first-time tongue-tied hurdlers in Class 4 or lower company for a profit of ÂŁ23.32 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 36.18, A/E = 1.41). THE VILLAGE WAY, runner-up in two point-to-points and in a novice hurdle at Wetherby, can break his duck.

LEICESTER 2.35

JOHNNY MAC (system – Matt Sheppard, second run for the stable. Chases)

Matt Sheppard has a modest strike-rate at the first-time of asking with horses he takes over form other yards but it’s a different story second time out, especially with the chasers. In the past 15 seasons, he’s won with seven of the 37 qualifiers for a profit of £61.83. JOHNNY MAC won well at Hereford last month and can follow up.

KEMPTON 5.30

OLD CHUMS (system – Kodiac, gelded since last run)

Progeny of the sire Kodiac have a cracking record on this first start after a gelding operation, with 53 of the 373 qualifiers winning for a huge profit of £200.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. Stall 12 makes life difficult for the Tom Dascombe-trained OLD CHUMS but the switch to the all-weather could suit – his dam won here – and there was plenty of promise on his debut sixth of 16 at Doncaster back in April.
