IMPERIAL HOPE (Oliver Sherwood, second run after a wind operation)
Oliver Sherwood is six from 33 with his runners having their second outing after wind surgery and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £19.00. Those who finished fourth or worse last time out were six from 24 for a profit of £28.00.
IMPERIAL HOPE could only finish a modest fifth at Doncaster on in January on his return from a wind operation and might fare better this time around, despite the suspicion that he’s going to prove best on a right-handed track.
CATTERICK 2.10
SHESADABBER (system – Catterick 5f handicaps, high draws on soft ground)
High draws enjoy a huge edge in 5f handicaps at Catterick when the ground is on the slow side (good to soft or softer) and backing all those in stall 8 or higher would have found 19 winners from 153 runners since the start of 2016 for a profit of £66.38 to a £1 level stake at SP. The six qualifiers in today’s contest include frontrunners SHESADABBER who might be able to get across to the favoured nearside rail from stall 11 of 13.

MERRY POPPINS (system – Donald McCain, handicap hurdles at Bangor)
Since the beginning of 2011, Donald McCain has a 57 from 262 record (21.8% strike-rate) in handicap hurdles at Bangor and backing them all would have returned a profit of £102.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. MERRY POPPINS could be worth chancing on her stable debut.
NEWCASTLE 7.30
RAMPAGE (system – New Bay handicappers, top 3 finish last time out)
RAMPAGE qualifies as a bet for me on multiple angles in this 1m Class 5 handicap, including the ‘New Bay progeny in handicaps, top-three finish last time out’ system. This has produced 58 winners from 163 runners (35.6% strike-rate) for a huge profit of £111.74 to a £1 level stake at SP (prior to Monday’s racing). The Kubler yard does well when shipping one to Newcastle from Lambourn and Rampage, just beaten into second at Thirsk on his handicap debut in July, can go one better this time.
