RELEASE THE KRAKEN (system – chase debutants, top weight in handicap)
Laura Morgan’s RELEASE THE KRAKEN qualifies as a bet for me on multiple systems, including being top weight in a handicap on his debut over fences. It’s always interesting to see horses take this route rather than contest a novice chase and his trainer’s chasers have been hugely profitable to back blind. The six-year-old failed to score from 12 attempts in bumpers/hurdles for Nicky Richards but had several in-the-frame efforts to his name.

DESTINED (system – Michael Dods, second-time out 2yos)
Since the beginning of 2012, Michael Dods is 40 from 238 (16.8% strike-rate) with his second-time out juveniles and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £65.22. DESTINED was a 12-1 shot when finishing second to 8-15 favourite Spirit Of Applause at Ripon on his debut in September where he had shorter-priced (13-2) stablemate Jack Of Clubs back in third. That one gave the form a small boost when runner-up at Newcastle next time and perhaps he can go one better.

CHEEKY MAXI (system – Alice Haynes, stable switchers)
Alice Haynes shows a profit at the first time of asking with horses she takes over from other yards and the three previous qualifiers who were sent all the way from her Newmarket base to Newcastle for their stable debuts included a 22-1 winner. CHEEKI MAXI failed to shine in four starts for Richard Hannon but the Amo Racing-owned juvenile could benefit from the switch of yards and is worth chancing.
