There’s good racing on Sunday (January 8th) and Andrew has found some interesting angles and four selections at Chepstow and Southwell (all-weather). Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
CHEPSTOW 1.10
HEVA ROSE (system – Venetia Williams handicappers, first run after a wind operation, fresh)
Venetia Williams has a fine record in handicaps with horses having their first start after wind surgery, with those returning from a break of 150 days or more landing 13 of their 30 starts for a profit of more than £70 to a £1 level stake at SP. HEVA ROSE will enjoy the deep ground and is open to improvement after just two runs for her current handler.
CHEPSTOW 1.40
MOONLIGHTER (system – Kim Bailey, handicap chasers, first run after a wind operation)
To describe MOONLIGHTER as ‘quirky’ is perhaps the understatement of the century and Kim Bailey’s ten-year-old has been beaten into second and third by a combined margin of 41 lengths when well supported in both starts for his current yard this term. However, this is his time of year and perhaps the wind operation can see help him get back to winning ways. Bailey is eight from 31 with handicap chasers on their first start following wind surgery (+£4.21) and the ten-year-olds have recorded form figures of 1P21 (2-4), with the wins at 15-2 and 9-2.
CHEPSTOW 2.40
ESTACAS (system – David Bridgwater, stable switchers)
David Bridgwater has a solid record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, with the hurdlers/chasers landing 17 of their 64 starts (26.6%) for a profit of £51.38 to a £1 level stake at SP. ESTACAS won a soft-ground Ascot bumper for Andreas Wohler on his racecourse debut and looks very interesting on his hurdling bow.
SOUTHWELL 3.30
JEANS MAITE (system – Roy Bowing, Southwell)
Since Southwell swapped Fibresand for Tapeta, Roy Bowring has scored with 12 of his 47 course runners for a profit of £36.67 to a £1 level stake at SP. Fourteen of the 35 beaten horses also made the frame and JEANS MAITE, successful over course and distance on her penultimate start, looks set to run another big race.
