Handicap hurdles are some of the trickiest races to fathom yet Tom Lacey has won with 130 of his 595 such runners (21.9% strike-rate) for a profit of £133.88 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 100.33, A/E = 1.30). The strike-rate improves to 28.4% (23 winners from 81 bets, +£38.10) for those who were beaten favourites on their latest start and TOWNHILL, whose stamina gave out when fourth (13-8f) over 3m3f in the mud at Sedgefield last time, will appreciate today’s quicker conditions.

SHANDANCER (system – Dr Richard Newland & Jamie Insole stable debutants, handicap hurdles)
The Newland & Sole yard does well at the first time of asking with horses they take over from other trainers, especially in handicap hurdles, scoring with 27 of the 95 qualifiers for a profit of £27.96 to a £1 level stake at SP. SHANDANCER, ex-Amy Murphy, will appreciate the good ground and can finally shed his maiden tag.
