CROWNTHORPE makes his debut for the Alan Brown yard and might be worth a small interest to win at the first time of asking for his new connections. He won well over today’s course and distance for Richard Fahey in late November and had excuses next time – he was upped from Class 5 to Class 4 level, failed to get any cover from his wide draw and was ridden patiently in a race that favoured prominent types. The eight-year-old fared much better in the same grade on his latest outing when beaten less than two lengths in fifth, doing best of the closers in a steadily-run contest. He drops back down to Class 5 level today and could get back on track if a change of scenery has a positive effect. Buy in the 50-25-10 market or take a price in the Spreadex fixed odds betting.

The Archie Watson yard have been in fine form of late but it could be worth opposing the stable’s LUNA MAGIC at Southwell today. This reliable mare has an excellent record when joining forces with Miss Brodie Hampson, scoring seven times over a variety of distances, but this 1m4f trip seems to stretch her stamina and she’s yet to score over further than 1m1f. Her record over today’s trip is 474588888637674 (0-15) and she looks a sell in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters may prefer to back Bascinet who has solid claims of landing the hat-trick.
