CIEREN FALLON was in winning format Yarmouth on Tuesday and has a good book of rides on the final day of the September festival. THE SPOTLIGHT KID, the biggest-priced of his seven mounts at 12-1, isn’t without hope in the opener (1.35), having finished a close-up fourth at Kempton last time despite challenging on the slowest part of the track. MASAI MARA (2.10) was very green when fourth at Newmarket on his debut and the Gosden’s colt should know more this time. The William Haggas-trained PINAFORE was a huge eyecatcher at Ascot on his recent debut and is another who should take a big step forward in the fillies’ novice contest (2.45). She’s priced at around 11-2, as are TURQUOISE DIAMOND (3.20), CANTERBURY BELL (4.30) and KENILWORTH KING (5.35). APHELIOS (9-4 for the 5.05) has finished first or second in all second starts since his debut and it will be disappointing if he doesn’t pick up at least 10pts. Buy Fallon at 52 with Spreadex.

Ararat – a David Simcock-trained juvenile newcomer ridden by Jamie Spencer – finished a 20-1 second of 14 here on Tuesday and CHARLATAN could also go well on his debut for the same trainer/jockey combination in this 1m maiden. Spencer is 12 from 56 when riding two-year-old newcomers for the yard for a profit of £25.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and 11 of the beaten horses finished second or third. Buy at 9 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.

AYR JOCKEYS
CALLUM RODRIGUEZ has a 114 from 7245 record when riding for Keith Dalgleish and backing them blind would have returned a small profit (+£17.05 to £1). Plenty of the yard’s turf horses prefer ground on the easy of good and backing them all from September 1st until the end of the year would have returned a profit of £86.69. TIMBUKONE holds obvious claims in Ayr’s finale, having run second here and at Musselburgh since visored, and his other mounts have prospects of picking up points, despite some of them being big prices. Dalgleish does especially well with his second-time out juveniles, suggesting that both TWO RIVERS (1.20) and LOVELY LADY (1.50) could go well despite finishing out of the frame on their debuts. CHICHESTER won at this meeting last year and could go well in the 3.00, while HOT DIGGITY DOG could leave the form of July’s course defeat well behind now that he’s been freshened up by a 66-day break.
