APPRECIATE IT
MIGHTY POTTER has rock-solid claims in the Turners’ Novices Chase that gets proceedings under way at Cheltenham today but the remainder of the field are much of a muchness and the angle could be to oppose current second favourite APPRECIATE IT, who has yet to totally convince over fences. He has an official rating of 152, as do BANBRIDGE and STAGE STAR, yet he’s priced at 7-2 to their 8-1 and 10-1. BALCO COASTAL and JAMES DU BERLAIS, both rated 151, also have possibilities and Appreciate It looks short in the betting at around 7-2. Sell at 19 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Oppose APPRECIATE IT in Cheltenham 1.30
CHELTENHAM 2.50
BLUE LORD
BLUE LORD, like stablemate Appreciate It in the Cheltenham opener, looks a vulnerable second favourite behind a warm jolly, in this case, SHISHKIN. The eight-year-old was impressive in slamming yesterday’s Champion Chase runner-up Captain Guinness by 11 lengths at Leopardstown on his penultimate start but that was over 2m1f and he could struggle to see out today’s 2m5f trip. The Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old won over an extended 2m4f at Clonmel in November but the 5-6 favourite was all out to hold on from stablemate Tornado Flyer that day and the form is weak. He reportedly ‘felt flat’ throughout the race when beaten at odds of 1-4 at the Dublin Racing Festival last time and the advice is to sell at 12 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. HITMAN has a habit of coming second and fixed odds punters might want to back hm each-way or without the favourite.
Recommendation: Oppose BLUE LORD in Cheltenham 2.50
