PORFIN stayed on well from off the pace to finish a close second to all-the-way winner Cuban Breeze in last year’s renewal of this 5f apprentice handicap and, with a very strong gallop looking likely tonight, can go one place better. That was a huge effort given that the winner added a further four victories in 2022 and is now rated 25lb higher. Porfin, who scored three times subsequently, is only 3lb higher and did well to finish in mid-division at Southwell last week when poorly drawn in stall 14 of 14. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or back him each-way (15-2 at the time of writing) in the fixed odds betting.

CHELMSFORD 6.00
Like Porfin (see above), DESERT BOOTS was poorly drawn at Southwell last time where he finished a respectable sixth of the 12 runners. On paper, stall 10 of 10 looks to be a terrible draw in this 6f handicap but hold-up performer who can be tucked in behind rivals and the likely strong gallop could see him arrive on the scene late. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds each-way price (17-2 at the time of writing).
