BEN CURTIS was among the winners at Newcastle yesterday and he has some good mounts at Haydock today. It’s doubtful that SEEKING GOLD can upset the odds-on favourite in the opener (1.15) but ten points for second place looks realistic, while PEROTTO is not without hope in the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes (1.45) despite being priced up at around 25-1. Ian Williams has done well in staying handicaps this season and the hat-trick seeking SARSONS RISK has an each-way shout in the 2.20. CONTACT would probably prefer a smaller field in the 2.55 but the 5-1 shot should still be thereabouts, while FLAMING RIB was a narrow second in Group 2 company on his sole previous course visit and has a squeak in the big race – the Group 1 Sprint Stakes (3.30). Finally, NOMADIC EMPIRE was a big eyecatcher against the draw bias when fourth of 22 at York and is another with place claims. Buy Curtis in the Spreadex HAYDOCK JOCKEYS MARKET.

HAYDOCK 3.30
UMM KULTHUM was only seventh at York last time but he could be yet another horse who is simply unsuited to that speed track. His record elsewhere, over 5f-6f only, reads 113310 (3-6), with the ‘duck egg’ excusable as he was poorly drawn when 66-1 for the Group 1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes this season. His sole Haydock run was a fine third to Rohaan in the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes last term when doing best of those drawn low. He doesn’t deserved to be about eight times the price of Rohaan today and rain won’t inconvenience him. He can be bought in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 of backed each-way in the fixed odds betting.

ASCOT 4.55
SPIRITED GUEST has struggled to see out the 7f trip in four starts since his fine third to Mr Wagyu at Epsom in June and, if pacesetting is the plan, he could get his own way in front on his return to 6f. David Probert is a good booking and he’s forecast to start as the 25-1 outsider of the entire field. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or back each-way.
