THIRSK 3.40
Those drawn middle-to-low usually enjoy an advantage in big-field 1m handicaps at Thirsk and, last year, the Thirsk Hunt Cup went to 66-1 outsider Redarna who was drawn in stall 15. BILLYB looks well berthed in stall 14 of 15 and Ann Duffield’s four-year-old landed a Class 2 handicap on the Tapeta at Southwell when we last saw him. He raced wide and challenged on the outside of the field that day and getting plenty of daylight seems to be the key to him. His wide draw looks ideal for such tactics and he can swoop late down the middle of the track. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back BILLYB in Thirsk 3.40
NEWMARKET JOCKEYS
CONNOR BEASLEY has a live chance of riding a Newmarket winner courtesy of FERROUS (see 5.15 Newmarket below) and his other three mounts are also of interest – GALE FORCE MAYA could get loose on the lead in the Listed Chaloner Stakes (2.15), while CHAIRMANOFTEHBOARD fared best of those ridden patiently when third in a 6f handicap here on his latest outing. The likely stronger pace and first-time cheekpieces could bring about improvement. He also has 33-1 shot SANDBECK (4.00), whose chance might have been underestimated by the market. She signed off last term with a solid fifth to Gale Force Maya at Ayr, is two from two on her seasonal debuts, and could benefit from the first-time headgear. Buy in the Spreadex NEWMARKET JOCKEYS market or combine his mounts in a fixed odds multiple.

NEWMARKET 5.15
FERROUS did too much too soon in the 6f Class handicap at Newmarket’s Craven meeting, racing keenly in second place before serving it up to the front-running King’s Crown over one furlong out. Jack Channon’s well-backed 9-2 shot weakened into sixth of 14 but this was a solid run in a race set up for the closers (the winner, runner-up and third all came from well off the pace). He won his maiden on heavy ground, but the son of Dark Angel is unlikely to have an issue with good or faster going and should find conditions more to his liking this afternoon. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back him each-way in the fixed odds betting.
