RACECARD NUMBERS 1s
ATTACCA’s fast and fluent jumping helped him to an impressive 5-1 victory on good ground at Cheltenham in December and he could be hard to pass in Ascot’s opener. Nicky Henderson’s five-year-old is number 1 on the racecard and there are others with solid chances, notably Attacca’s stablemate BOLD ENDEAVOUR, who heads the betting for the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Chase (1.50). He was very impressive when scoring at right-handed Leicester on his seasonal/stable debut and won well at Doncaster last time, despite jumping out to his right on the left-handed track. SPORTING JOHN (2.25) has had a wind operation since disappointing at Wetherby on Boxing Day and he was a Cheltenham winner last term after another bout of wind surgery. SAMARRIVE (3.00) was backed from 16-1 into 11-1 on Friday night and is likely to appreciate the switch back to hurdles from fences, while ITSO FURY heads the betting in the 4.10. HAYDOCK 2.05
WAKOOL
WAKOOL was beaten by just over six lengths into fourth of 13 when 9-1 for a Pertemps Qualifier at Musselburgh a couple of weekends ago but that was a fine effort given the way the race unfolded. It was very hard to come from off the pace at that two-day Musselburgh meeting and Wakool was given a patient ride, whereas the three who beat him were described as ‘made all’, ‘in touch with leaders’ and ‘prominent’. He’s up in class but looks to have been underestimated in the market. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back WAKOOL in Haydock 2.05
GOWRAN PARK 2.17
SHARJAH
SHARJAH has had no answer to stablemate State Man in Grade 1 company in his two previous runs this term, finishing second by four lengths when runner-up in the Morgiana at Punchestown in November before going down by just over nine lengths when third in the Matheson Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas. The ten-year-old’s powers look to be on the wane, and he could be vulnerable to younger legs in this Grade 3 contest. He’s always gone well early season, recording form figures in November/December of 1F3114111123 (7-12), as compared to 178463100B6240322 (2-17) in other months. Sell in the Spreadex 50-25-20 market.
