Like with Charlie Appleby’s Creative Force, only third when 8-13 favourite at Newmarket earlier this week, I’m suspicious of another Group 1 performer from the Godolphin setup – HURRICANE LANE – reappearing in a Group 3 when he has bigger fish later in the season. His two runs last term were underwhelming – he was beaten at odds of 8-11 and 4-5 – and he could prove vulnerable again. Rather than sell him in the 50-25-10 market I’m going to recommend a buy of 33-1 outsider FARHAN. Phil Kirby’s five-year-old has a good record fresh, will love the mud, and could out-run his huge odds. Back him each-way or buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Back FARHAN in Newbury 1.30
AYR 2.25
NED TANNER’s Haydock runner-up effort to RICHMOND LAKE was given a timely boost when the winner followed up here yesterday and Nick Alexander’s seven-year-old can go one better. Since his debut over hurdles back in October 2021, his record immediately following a defeat stands at 1111 (4-4). Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back NED TANNER in Ayr 2.25
THIRSK 4.15
COLD STARE needs genuinely soft or heavy going and conditions at Thirsk today – described as good, good to soft in places – are likely to be too fast for the 9-4 market leader. His record on officially good to soft or faster going reads 960805040908050602665807 (0-24) and he can be sold in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to consider a bet on AS IF BY CHANCE, who will be happier back on turf after two warm-up runs on Newcastle’s Tapeta surface earlier this spring. Nigel Tinkler’s five-year-old finished a respectable 22-1 sixth of 14 in tis race last year, doing second best of those drawn high when the far side (low draws) enjoyed an edge. That was also his seasonal debut and he went on to win third time out.
Recommendation: Oppose COLD STARE in Thirsk 4.15
