Progeny of the sire Invincible Spirit have a good record on their first run after a gelding operation, landing 60 of their 355 (16.9% strike-rate, expected winners only 43.87). We’d have made a loss by backing them blind at SP but that becomes a profit at the best early price. Tom Clover’s INVICTUS GOLD failed to live up to market expectations on his debut, finishing last of six when a 9-2 shot, but kept on again after running green to finish just four lengths behind the winner and connections are quick to geld him. Backing the yard’s runners on their first start since a gelding operation is a profitable angle (six from 45, +£3.08), with the all-weather qualifiers who were having their second career start recording form figures of 1310123 (3-7) for a profit of £4.75.

SOUND OF IONA (system – Jim Goldie, Flat turf races, last time out winners)
Jim Goldie has a fine recent record with last time out winners who were bidding to follow up on the Flat (turf only), scoring with 45 of the 182 qualifiers (24.7%) since racing resumed after lockdown one in June 2020 for a profit of £23.42 (expected winners = 31.72, A/E = 1.42). SOUND OF IONA, five from 12 in the month of July, won here two weeks ago and can follow up.
