Andrew found 5-2 Ayr winner LISLORAN in his latest column and has six picks across the country on Boxing Day (Monday, December 26th). Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
HUNTINGDON 12.05
VOYBURG (system – Kim Bailey, chase to hurdles, headgear, 2m6f+)
Kim Bailey does well with horses switching from fences to hurdles, especially when they wear headgear over a staying trip (2m6f or further). VOYBURG failed to complete in two chase outings in October and will be happier back over timber. His sole win came over hurdles at Exeter in December of last year and his record right-handed in this sphere reads 3132 (1-4), suggesting each-way claims at a big price (14-1 at the time of writing).
FONTWELL 12.32
GOOD NEWS (system – headgear)
GOOD NEWS has a great record when visored, recording form figures of 1P43111141 (6-10) for a profit of ÂŁ27.50 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP, improving to 1P411111 (6-8) when returned to the track within eight weeks of his previous outing. The veteran belied fears about soft ground when scoring at Kempton 35 days ago and can follow up.
MARKET RASEN 1.05
TELEGRAM BOB (system – Tim Easterby, hurdlers in first-time blinkers)
Tim Easterby does well when fitting one of his Flat turf runners with first-time blinkers and it’s the same with his hurdlers. Since the beginning of 2014, he’s won with five of the 15 qualifiers for a profit of £9.38. He’s four from four this those to start in the front two of the betting. TELEGRAM BOB, as big as 100-1 at the time of writing, won’t fall into that category but might be worth a small and speculative interest on his handicap debut.
NEWCASTLE 1.25
ARTIC ROW (system – Nick Alexander, second run after a wind operation)
Nick Alexander is seven from 27 with runners having their second start back after wind surgery and the profit of ÂŁ12.13 could have been much bigger if placed horses at 50-1, 33-1, 16-1, 14-1 and 9-1 had enjoyed a little more luck on occasions. ARTIC ROW, runner-up in his sole point-to-point, showed little in two bumpers but might do better now going over obstacles again.
WETHERBY 2.45
SCHIEHALLION MUNRO (system – time of year)
SCHIEHALLION MUNRO performs best in the depths of winners, recording form figures from November to February of 32121121122F11U (7-15) for a profit of ÂŁ20.83 to the usual ÂŁ1 stake. Three of those wins (from six starts) came at Wetherby and he can land this handicap chase.
MARKET RASEN 2.50
ACHILLE (system – Venetia Williams handicap chasers, December, recent run)
This century, Venetia Williams is 91 from 394 with her handicaps chasers in December who’d run in the past four weeks for a profit of £59.38. ACHILLE only got as far as the first fence when favourite at Lingfield last time and is worth chancing despite his long losing run.
