There was plenty of drama today (10th January 2024) at Leicester races as the Olly Murphy-trained Iddergem threw away the win after trading at 1.01 on the Betfair Exchange, which punters matched with over £5,800.
Shock At Leicester Races As 1.01 In-Play Shot Gets Beat
Exactly £5,804 was matched on Iddergem as victory looked a certainty after he leaped over the final hurdle at Leicester Races, but it wasn’t to be when Gary Moore’s Parikarma rallied late to record a remarkable win just in the nick of time.
Iddergem idled in the closing stages when looking more likely than ever to record his second win under rules after hitting 1.01 in-play on the Betfair Exchange.
However, despite having to make her way around a last hurdle faller, Parikarma made huge strides late on to secure the win. Moore’s mare hit 190 on the exchange, which was matched with just £2. You can see the dramatic closing stages below.
It was a race that Parikarma should have won comfortably anyway, and she was sent off as the 5/4 favourite for the step down in class after finishing a never close 7th out of 9 last time out at Newbury in a Class 3 contest.

It was a claimers hurdle over 1m7½f and conditional jockey Rob Hargreaves was speaking to RacingTV after the race: “I thought our chance had gone.
“She was going ok until it happened and that’s when they quickened away from her. Lucky for us the horse in front got a bit lonely and she kept trying.”
Hargreaves said that the fall of Olly Murphy’s other runner Swinging London at the final hurdle helped his charge get home first. He added: “Thankfully things happened by credit to her she kept trying and ran all the way through to the line.”
