2022 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Runners: Luxembourg, Adayar & Alpinista Head 27 After First Forfeit Stage
The Aidan O’Brien yard, who have won Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe twice in the past, have a leading hope of making that three with their improving Luxembourg @ 7/2 with 888Sport being one of the 27 horses left in at the first forfeit stage.
Likely to be ridden by Ryan Moore, who is also chasing a third Arc success, Luxembourg was last seen winning the Group One Irish Champions Stakes (1m2f) at the Curragh on Sept 10th – with Onesto 1/2 a length back in second.
Monday’s latest declaration stage saw over 50 horses removed from the Arc 2022 entries, but away from the current Arc favourite Luxembourg, we’ve also got the talented grey mare Alpinista @ 11/2 with 888Sport (Sir Mark Prescott) and last year’s Arc fourth Adayar @ 6/1 with 888Sport (Charlie Fellowes) among the 27 horses left.
Of those that were taken out, the likes of Pyledriver, Hurricane Lane, Bay Bridge and Nashwa were some of the big names.
Last year’s Arc hero Torquator Tasso @ 13/2 with 888Sport also remains in contention to defend his title and try and be the third back-to-back Arc winner since 2014.
Prix du Jockey Club and Coral-Eclipse winner this season Vadeni @ 6/1 with 888Sport and also Titleholder, who is coming over from Japan, are also still in the race.
Irish Derby winner Westover @ 14/1 with 888Sport is another big name that remains on course for Sunday’s Arc, which can be viewed on ITV Racing and Sky Sports Racing.
Other British entries at this stage sees the John and Thady Gosden-trained Mishriff and Mostahdaf in the race, plus the William Haggas-trained Alenquer has also been left in and also West Wind Blows for Simon and Ed Crisford.
Of the Irish runners – the already-mentioned Luxembourg, who tops the betting market with most firms @ 7/2 with 888Sport, could also have company from his Ballydoyle yard with stablemate Broome in the race still. Trainer Jim Bolger has Mac Swiney and the Ger Lyons-trained Thunder Kiss is another Irish raider that’s remained.
Finally, there will be another forfeit stage on Tuesday morning (27th Sept) and it’s rumoured that Melbourne Cup heroine Verry Elleegant is to be added to the race at a cost of €120,000.
