As supporters await the start of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, we take a look at what clubs are the bookies’ favourites to face the drop this season. With newly-promoted Luton Town having the shortest Premier League relegation odds 2023-24.

Luton Town Premier League Relegation Odds @ 2/5

The Hatters shocked the footballing world with their display during the 2022-23 campaign, earning promotion to the Premier League for the first time in history.

Rob Edwards guided his side to the play-off final after a grueling season in the Championship and after 120 minutes of football Luton beat Coventry in a monumental penalty-shootout.

This victory earned the side from Bedfordshire a place in England’s top-flight and could be a dark-horse in the Premier League. However, maintaining their place in the division could prove difficult, as the level of competition has never been so high.

Sheffield United Premier League Relegation Odds @ 4/5

The Blades returned to the Premier League once again, after finishing second in the Championship and enjoyed a successful campaign – reaching the FA Cup semi-final.

Iliman Ndiaye was the club’s leading goalscorer with 15 goals, whilst also contributing to 12 assists and the Senegalese international has been linked with a move to Marseille this summer.

Losing their star man could prove catastrophic in their bid to stay in the Premier League, as club legend Billy Sharp, left the club at the end of last season.

Supporters will be fearful of relegation once again, as the side from Sheffield are yet to make a single addition this summer and will need to act swiftly in the coming weeks.

Burnley Premier League Relegation Odds @ 5/2

Vincent Kompany returned to England after a successful period in Anderlecht, where he managed the Belgian side after a role as a ‘player-coach’.

His move to Burnley was met with uncertainty due to his unproven record and stellar job that previous manager, Sean Dyche, had managed during his time at Turf Moor.

However, the former Manchester City manager silenced his critics right-away as the Clarets won the Championship and swept-aside all that came before them.

Burnley won the league with 10 points to spare and brought free-flowing football to the second-flight, putting them in good stead for the Premier League season.

Outside Options

Bournemouth @ 5/2 are amongst those in contention to face the drop, following the departure of Gary O’Neil. However, new manager Andoni Iraola has been tipped to bring exciting, high-pressing football to the Vitality Stadium.

Nottingham Forest @ 11/4 survived after their initial scare in the Premier League, as Steve Cooper prove himself as one of the league’s best managers. Holding on to key players will be key for the Trees, with Morgan Gibbs-White attracting interest from a host of clubs.

Premier League Relegation 2023/24: Bournemouth

Gary O’Neil may have been a rookie manager, but he guided Bournemouth to safety after spending most of last season in charge of the Cherries. He kept them up with five points in hand over those who dropped out of the Premier League, but now the reins pass to Andoni Iraola.

While he’s established suburban Madrid club Rayo Vallecano back in La Liga after taking them up and recording consecutive mid-table finishes, the former Athletic Bilbao and Spain defender lacks working knowledge of English football. Just like when Eddie Howe left Bournemouth in the summer of 2020, the owners had to decide what direction to take.

Iraola represents a calculated risk, rather than a safe option. He inherits a Cherries team that has lost influential midfielder Jefferson Lerma on a free transfer to Crystal Palace. Bournemouth struggled for goals under O’Neil last season, not even averaging one per game in the Premier League.

Unless Iraola receives further backing in the transfer window, then he must get more out of forwards like Dominic Solanke, who hasn’t yet translated Championship scoring form to this higher level, and physical Wales frontman Kieffer Moore.

The Cherries will be relying heavily on Denmark midfielder Philip Billing and wide player Marcus Tavernier, who signed a new long-term contract this summer, to supply and grab goals. There’s little value in backing odds-on favourites Luton Town and fellow promoted club Sheffield United for the drop, however.

Burnley may be better-equipped than them to preserve Premier League status under up-and-coming coach Vincent Kompany. That leaves a club like Bournemouth vulnerable, especially if fellow strugglers from last term like Everton and Nottingham Forest strengthen.
