The Premier League have announced the eight nominees for the 2023/24 Player of the Season award.
The list has caused quite a stir after Manchester City’s Rodri and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka were left off the shortlist.
Among the nominees that are included are Man City duo Erling Haaland and Phil Foden – both of whom are also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
Haaland looks set to take home the Golden Boot for the second successive season, while Foden has enjoyed his most productive season in front of goal.
Although Saka misses out, the Gunners still have two representatives on the shortlist: Declan Rice and captain Martin Ødegaard. The midfield pair have been instrumental to Arsenal’s title charge this season.
Eight outstanding nominees, but there can only be one winner…

Liverpool’s defensive stalwart, Virgil van Dijk, returns to the forefront after overcoming injury setbacks, showcasing his unwavering defensive prowess.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak complete the list of nominees, with their goal-scoring exploits and impactful performances earning them recognition among the league’s elite.
The announcement coincides with the ongoing battle for the Premier League title between Arsenal and Man City. Mikel Arteta’s side currently lead the table by one point, with City closely trailing behind with a game in hand.
Notably, Pep Guardiola’s team have dominated the Player of the Season Award in recent years, with Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and Ruben Dias among the previous recipients.
However, this season’s competition appears to be more open, with each nominee making a strong case for consideration.
