According to Pep Guardiola Phil Foden has been the player of the season so far this year in the Premier League and following the high praise from his manager, we take a look at Foden’s campaign so far.

Guardiola’s High Praise For Foden

Manchester City forward Phil Foden has been on fire this season – so much so that City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed his star is the best player in the league this year.

“He is the player of the season, with all the respect for incredible players but no-one has been so decisive for us as him this season. Winning games is when you become a world class player. Everyone can play good but you have to win games, and he wins games.

“He will already be a legendary player because in a short age, the games played, the minutes, the goals scored, the titles won and he is from the home and that is why the connection with the fans is unbelievable.”

Already a fan favourite at Manchester City, Phil Foden could earn his sixth league title this year with his boyhood club in what has been an incredible start to his career.

Foden’s numbers in the Premier League this season have been better than ever before, as City’s starboy has tied his own personal record for goals scored in a single season with 11 matches still to play.

Is Phil Foden On Track To Be Player Of The Season?

Foden has been influential yet again for Manchester City this year and his goals have been more important than ever as the Cityzens look to win a fourth consecutive Premier League title.

The 23-year-old keeps popping up at the most important moments for City, with his latest brace in the Manchester Derby last weekend securing a comfortable second half victory over their rivals.

Manchester City are currently just one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race, but as odds on favourites with most bookmakers this year, it would be no surprise to see Foden lift yet another title.

If City were to win their fourth title on the bounce Foden would be one of the top contenders for PFA Player Of The Season, with teammates Erling Haaland and Rodri completing the City shortlist.

Of course if Liverpool or Arsenal were able to surprise everyone in beating City to the title this year other stars such as Bukayo Saka or Virgil Van Dijk may be considered for the award.

Foden was recently named as Manchester City’s player of the month for February, with the English forward earning his second club award this season following a dominant month.

Although Foden has never been named PFA Player Of The Year – the City star has been crowned young player of the season twice in his career in both 2021 and 2022.
