Bayern Munich face the tall order of trying to overturn a three goal deficit this evening, as they welcome Manchester City to Bavaria. Should the Premier League champions manage to stretch their winning streak in all competitions to 10, we may see Pep Guardiola set a new Champions League record.

European glory has evaded Pep Guardiola since he left his native Barcelona in 2012, but many observers have been quick to point out that this Manchester City side, who are the joint-top scorers up to this point, look by far and away the best team in the Champions League this season.

The Cityzens have one foot planted in the semi-finals after a commanding 3-0 win at the Etihad last week, which will more than likely set up a last four tie with Real Madrid in a repeat of last season’s meeting at the same stage.

That spectacular smash-and-grab 6-5 aggregate win in extra time for Real Madrid signalled the end of the road for another season at least for Pep Guardiola, but his unrelenting, rampant squad look primed for another push a potential first treble-winning season.

Only two other managers have ever managed that feat – Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti. As mentioned, it is likely he will meet the latter in the next round, who also happens to be a four-time winner as a manager, as well as lifting it twice during his AC Milan playing career.

Ferguson managed to reach the century mark in 184 matches, while Ancelotti has 105 wins up to this point, but hit 100 after 180 fixtures in charge. If Pep Guardiola picks up another victory this evening, he can break the record for the quickest to the 100 milestone, in what will be his 158th game in the competition.
