Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has signed a new five-year deal at the club, keeping the England international at Villa Park until at least 2028.

Watkins signed for Villa three years ago after a successful spell at Brentford, where he was the Championship’s joint-top scorer and Player of the Year in 2020.

He scored 14 Premier League goals in 2020/21, 11 in 2021/22, 15 in 2022/23 and has four to his name so far this season following an electric start.

The 27-year-old trails only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane for goals scored in the English top-flight in 2023.

On Thursday, Watkins was named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming fixtures against Australia and Italy.

Watkins has finally come to an agreement with the club after beginning extension talks in the spring, pledging his future to Villa’s exciting project under Unai Emery.

He scored his first goal of the season away at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea last month, bagging a second half winner to hand the visiting side all three points.

Last weekend, Watkins added three to his tally with a superb hat-trick in a 6-1 rout of Brighton. Southgate was in attendance at Villa Park and certainly left impressed.

Under Emery, he’s scored 21 goals and added seven assists in 37 appearances including two hat-tricks in total.

On Instagram, the forward said:

“Signed and sealed. Couldn’t be happier to sign a new long-term deal with this club. Excited to continue this journey, up the Villa!”
