Nyck de Vries has said it “hurts” to lose his F1 seat just ten races into his F1 debut season.
The Dutchmen has failed to score any points so far this season for Alpha Tauri, the sister team to Red Bull F1. It was ultimately Red Bull that made the decision to bring in their reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo.
Speaking about losing his seat, de Vries said:
“Of course it hurts that the F1 chance I dreamed of for so long ended prematurely.
“But life is not a destination, it’s a journey. Sometimes you have to take the hard road to get to where you want to.
“I am grateful for our privileged lives, proud of our journey and my family. This is just another experience – we move on and look to the next chapter.”

De Vries was the reserve driver for Williams last season and scored two points on his debut for Williams. Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko was convinced by that display and gave him a seat at Alpha Tauri this season.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said:
“There was a general feeling that Nyck wasn’t quite hitting the mark. And then the question was: ‘What are the options if we were to switch things around?'”
De Vries will now be hoping he can get his way back into F1 next season after this setback in his career.
