Nottingham Forest took a huge step towards Premier League survival this evening, as they were lifted out of the relegation zone thanks to a vital victory over Brighton at the City Ground.

The Reds came into this one having not won a game in their last 11 Premier League fixtures.

It looked to be a major task for Steve Cooper’s men ahead of kick-off, as they sat in 19th – 11 places below the visitors Brighton.

Forest started on the front-foot, creating chances early on. It didn’t take long for them to be rewarded for this either. Neco Williams was brought down in the box, forcing Jarred Gillett to point to the spot.

Williams’ compatriot Brennan Johnson stood up to take the spot-kick, but to be denied by Jason Steele.

On the 38th minute mark, the Reds were punished after Keylor Navas poorly parried Solly March’s effort into the middle of the box – where Facundo Buonanotte was there to turn home.

Luck finally looked to turn Forest’s way on the stroke of half-time. Brighton’s Pascal Gross levelled the score by turning the ball into his own net from a Renan Lodi cross.

The second-half provided even more drama for the Midlands club.

Despite losing Williams through injury, the Reds found the net twice – as Danilo and Morgan Gibbs-White scored a goal apiece to secure a mighty victory on Trentside.
