Nottingham Forest are staying in the Premier League for at least another season after beating Arsenal and handing Manchester City the trophy in the process.

A run of three wins and a draw in five games from Steve Cooper’s side when it was needed most will be remembered for generations by supporters.

On Saturday evening, Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game after 19 minutes to hand Forest the most precious three points of the season which leaves the club six points clear of the relegation zone.

The win ensures the Reds, who will travel to south London and face Crystal Palace on the final day, can play a stress-free 90 minutes at Selhurst Park without the fear of dreaded relegation.

Morgan Gibbs-White has emerged as a star in Nottingham and the 23-year-old is duly repaying the hefty £40m sum Forest paid Wolves for his signature.

Arsenal’s second loss in a row put the icing on top of a disastrous end to the campaign, which has seen the Gunners fall at the final hurdle under pressure from Pep Guardiola and one of English football’s greatest ever sides.

Manchester City are confirmed as Premier League champions for the third year in a row and can now afford to rest their key players ahead of upcoming FA Cup and Champions League finals.

Leicester City likely need to win their two remaining games against Newcastle and West Ham for any chance of survival, with relegation to the Championship alongside Southampton appearing inevitable.

The final relegated side will be either Leeds – who play in a decisive clash against West Ham on Sunday – or Everton, who sealed a point at Molineux in the 99th minute against Wolves thanks to Yerry Mina.
